In the past few weeks, I have turned off all my social media notifications and stopped using WhatsApp actively. Without a doubt, that’s the best decision I’ve made in a while and I intend to stick with it.
When I left WhatsApp, I thought people would notice, but everyone is busy with their own lives, which made sense. I used to do so much on the app, but now I just reply to a couple of group messages and go on my way. These days, I spend more time on Twitter, YouTube, Reading or Writing (recent picked this up).
If there’s something I’ve learned in this short time, it’s this:
1. People are going to be alright whether you’re there or not.
2. You might not be as important as you think.
3. Nothing will spoil just because you’re unavailable.
4. You don’t need that many conversations anyway.
I think everyone should take breaks from the social media they use most. It will do them a world of good.
