In 2022, I was living with a friend, and I noticed something really strange: he didn't call his parents. It was weird because I call my mom like three or four times a week, which feels normal to me.
To him, however, it was okay to talk to his parents only every now and then. So, I made it my life's work to get him to call them once a week and boy, was it a war! But we made progress.
After a few months, he started calling them regularly. He later went on to thank me in 2024, saying he had remained consistent and that it had helped his relationship with his parents immensely.
Sometimes, the excuses for why we don't call our folks are numerous and seem reasonable. But the truth is, we don't have as much time as we think we do (our parents will live long, IJN Amen!), because all we have is now. You should make it count as much as you can.
So, consider this your call to action: call your folks often. Whether it's once a week or five times a week, pick up that phone. Call them and tell them how much you love them and how glad you are that they're in your life.
P.S. Sorry I didn't show up last week; I wasn't inspired to write anything and decided to let it be.
